Suraj Chhetri – Himalayan Grocers

Suraj Chhetri first arrived in Canada in 2010 after having spent his last 20 years in refugee camps in Nepal. Landing in Quebec, he and his family soon moved to Ottawa for his son’s education. After 3 years of work as an insurance agent with Desjardins, Suraj purchased an established business in Guelph. He had always planned to set up in Guelph because of it’s Bhutanese community.

Himalayan Grocers caters to that community by providing products which are unique to the Bhutanese culture. Many foods, spices and items for performing rituals are not available in other local stores. In addition to providing these services in the local language, Himalayan Grocers have developed their own brand of rice and provide it to locations from Windsor to Quebec City.
