Changes to language assessment program at Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington

September 9, 2013

The federal and provincial governments have developed a new coordinated system for language assessment and referral to language training programs.

As a result, the Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington Language Assessment Centre will now be called the Language Assessment and Referral Centre.

The Centre is jointly funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, and will now assess Canadian citizens and refugee claimants in addition to permanent residents and select categories of temporary foreign workers (e.g. live-in caregivers) in Guelph and Wellington County.

All clients who are eligible for government-funded language training are required to have their language assessed through a CLARS (Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System) centre in Ontario.
