Parts of Bill C-6 Take Effect Today

Several provisions of Bill C-6, which amends the Citizenship Act to provide faster pathways to Canadian citizenship, take effect today. Some of the provisions of Bill C-6 were effective immediately upon the bill receiving royal assent back in June of this year, including the removal of the controversial provision of the previous Bill C-24 to strip Canadians with dual citizenship (including those born in Canada) of their Canadian citizenship if convicted of certain crimes.

The infographic below, courtesy of the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, outlines the changes that take effect today. For more detailed information regarding Bill C-6, see Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Backgrounder document.
