Video: Nursing students advocate for equal opportunities in employment for skilled immigrants
December 2, 2013
Eight community health nursing students have created a video which captures the stories of professional newcomers to Canada who have faced difficulties in finding meaningful work related to the fields they studied before immigrating.
According to this video, “unequal access to employment is a social injustice. Without equal opportunities to professional jobs, new highly skilled immigrants are more prone to settle into low income jobs and under/unemployment. This is a significant social determinant of health that contributes to negative health outcomes of this vulnerable group.”
They are advocating for social action and equal opportunities, and are calling for this issue to be a topic of conversation. (NOTE: It is not a LIP-produced video).
